Assemblywoman Helene Weinstein is pleased to announce the return of the successful “Chametz dumpster” program for residents of the greater East 30’s, Midwood, and Marine Park neighborhoods.
For over two decades, the Assemblywoman has been coordinating with the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) on complementary Pesach garbage collections. The dumpster program, started in 2008 after meetings with local Rabbonim and community askanim, has expanded to five central locations for residents to deposit chametz and the remnants of their late morning burnings. This year, the Assemblywoman worked in conjunction with Assemblywoman Roxanne Persaud, and Councilmembers Alan Maisel and Chaim Deutsch to ensure the sites remained convenient for all.
“We never could have predicted how popular these dumpsters would become,” said the Assemblywoman. “This year, in concert with the Department of Sanitation and community, we will continue to monitor and expand the program as necessary. I thank the DSNY for being so understanding and accommodating to the needs of the Orthodox Jewish community.”
The dumpsters will be available for deposits starting in the early morning hours of Friday, April 22nd (Erev Pesach) and will be removed by 4pm that same day. The locations are as follows:
❖ James Madison High School – Quentin Road (between Bedford Ave. & E. 26th St.)
❖ PS 240 Andries Hudde – 2500 Nostrand Avenue (at Avenue K)
❖ City Park Adjacent to Derech Hatorah – 2810 Nostrand Avenue (between Kings Hwy. & P)
❖ Rabbi Rokeach’s Shul – 3302 Avenue P (on East 33rd Street)
❖ Marine Park Jewish Center – 3311 Avenue S
Last-minute changes may mean dumpsters are placed at locations nearby the listed areas. Residents can call the Assemblywoman’s office (718-648-4700) or The Department of Sanitation (718-714-2760) to obtain the location if a dumpster is not where listed. Chag Sameach!
