Following the weekly cabinet meeting in the Golan Heights on Sunday, 9 Nissan, Syria responded angrily and with threats. The Syrian Foreign Ministry called the Israeli decision to mark the cabinet’s first birthday with an official meeting in the Golan Heights “provocative” and “reckless”, with the nation’s Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad adding Syria is prepared to do what it takes to get the Golan back.
During the weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Israel will never leave the Golan Heights, which was liberated in the June 1967 Six Day War and the government in 1981 annexed the Golan to the State of Israel, but this move has yet to be recognized by the international community.
Mekdad explained that the Golan Heights is currently “Israeli-occupied” and his nation does plan to get it back.
