The Ministry of Religious Services announces its Shirat HaYam program which is a master plan for computerizing 132 religious councils at a cost of NIS 45 million.
The plan is already operating as a pilot program in over ten councils for marriage registration. Under the computerized system, a kesuva from parents registered by the Rabbanut will already be scanned into the system and there will no longer be a need to bring it to verify one’s Jewishness. In addition, the religious council will then remain in touch with the couple being married online and via SMS until their chupah, avoiding what used to be numerous trips to the religious council offices.
