According to reports from Iran, Russia has completed delivery of part one of the sophisticated S-300 anti-aircraft system. The Tashnim News Agency quotes a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Jaber Ansari as confirming the first delivery.
Israeli efforts to prevent the deal were only successful in delaying the delivery a number of years. Senior IDF commanders have stated that if placed in the hands of Iran, the S-300 would complicate any Israeli air strike against that country but it does not pose a threat that cannot be addressed nor does it change the balance of power between the two countries.
