Countdown to Pomegranate Day of Giving for Youth, Beginning 2 PM EST on Tuesday

BannerJP With just one day left until the Pomegranate Day of Giving for Youth, organizers of the 24 hour fundraising campaign continue to spread the word about the multi-agency effort that hopes to raise $2 million for programs that provide services to at risk teens throughout the world.

The need for programs that address the ever-growing crisis within the Jewish community has never been greater, explained Rabbi Zvi Gluck, founder and director of Amudim, which deals with crisis intervention.

“Since Rosh Hashana there have been more than 50 suicides and drug overdoses in people under the age of 35 in the tri-state area alone and it isn’t even Pesach yet,” said Rabbi Gluck.  “We need to actively address these problems and provide those who are suffering with the support and treatment they need or the numbers will just continue to grow.”

Maintaining an infrastructure of organizations within various Jewish communities is the only way to stem the tide of this epidemic that seems to know no boundaries.

“At this point in time, there is no community with a sizable Jewish community that is immune to this issue, which creates a need for these services in multiple locations,” explained Rabbi Young, director of Our Place which is organizing the campaign. “Considerable effort has been focused on outreach, but the importance of in-reach, dealing with problems within our community, is even greater,” added Abe Banda of Pomegranate.

Funding for each of these organizations is crucial and tomorrow’s fundraiser, an all or nothing Charidy campaign where every donation will be quadrupled, will hopefully provide a financial boost that will enable the agencies involved to continue their lifesaving work.
