Chief Rabbi Dovid Lau Clarifies: Hotels Do Not Have their Own Eruv

lChief Ashkenazi Rabbi Dovid Lau Shlita clarifies in a letter that there is no eruv in a hotel as many may believe is the case.

In the letter dated 28 Adar-II, Rav Lau writes that in most of the hotels in Israel there is no special eruv and in some cases, a hotel is situated outside the municipal eruv. We are aware of this, and it is a major michsol.

  1. As many if not most tourists, even frum ones, are not fluent in modem Hebrew, it would be a great service if YWN translated Chief Rabbi Lau’s letter into English so that tourists can be aware of the situation and make their choices accordingly.

  2. So does that mean you cannot carry your key to the pool area. Can you give the person at the front desk a shekel and ask her to rent you the the entire hotel complex for shabbat . Or does the renting of a room also cover the hotel complex.
