Travelers hoping to speed through airport security can apply for membership in the PreCheck program at a temporary site located at O’Hare International Airport.
The center will take applications from April 4 through May 13. Five other application sites are located in and around Chicago.
The Transportation Security Administration program allows previously vetted fliers to use special lanes at checkpoints. Shoes, belts and light jackets stay on. Laptops and liquids stay in bags.
Those wanting to join have to complete a pre-enrollment process online at tsa.gov and visit an application center to provide more information, documents and fingerprints. The fee is $85 for a five-year membership.
An Associated Press analysis published last month found that a lag in enrollment will contribute to long security lines this summer.
