MKs Uri Maklev and Moshe Gafne have presented a bill that was approved by the Knesset Law Committee which seeks to correct what they perceive to be an injustice, the lack of chareidim and new immigrants in public service.
In fact, the bill was approved by the committee last month and Minister of Absorption Ze’ev Elkin submitted a revision, to include new immigrants as well.
The revised bill now addresses equal representation in the nation’s public service for chareidim as well as Arabs, new immigrants, Druse, the disabled, and one born in Ethiopia or if one of one’s parents were born in Ethiopia.
Efforts are also moving in the direction to amend the law that addresses the directorate of government companies and the need to find equal representation on these boards of directors too – namely to include chareidim and new immigrants.
