Rav Druckman Backs Rav Melamed’s Position After Attack By DM Ya’alon

melaRosh Yeshivat Ohr Etzion Rabbi Chaim Druckman Shlita announced he stands firmly behind Rabbi Eliezer Melamed, attacking the decision by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon to call for an IDF boycott of Rabbi Melamed. The senior minister prohibits all IDF agencies from cooperating with Rabbi Melamed in any way due to the rabbi’s statements instructing soldiers to defy orders that contradict halacha.

Speaking with Galei Tzahal (Army Radio), Rabbi Druckman explained Ya’alon’s actions do not make sense. He pointed out that he never saw a defense minister call to end cooperation with a left-wing professor who calls on students not to serve in “occupied areas”.

“In principle, not a rabbi in Israel can speak out differently than Rabbi Melamed. We are not living under Antiochus. It is inconceivable that in the State of Israel soldiers receive orders that negate Toras Yisrael” stated Rav Druckman.

Rabbi Druckman added “The Torah commands us to enter the IDF and be moser nefesh if need be for the State of Israel”.

Rabbi Druckman concluded “I am not calling for insubordination but I am calling on the IDF Chief of Staff to make sure regulations do not contradict Torah way of life. We are not seeking one to accommodate a way of life but the Torah. I am certain regarding everything that is connected to Shabbos and that everyone understands the significance of kosher food. Why then must a religious soldier be boxed in a corner? A commander will never supersede the Torah”.

  1. I hope the bottom falls out on all the “Dati Leumi” chevra who give their lives literally to this Hellenist army and hopefully will stop doing this and join their Chareidi brothers in the beis medrash

  2. Sounds great. The Dati Leumi soldiers and officers are amongst – if not the – best fighters and defenders out there. Who does karlbenmarx suggest takes their place?

  3. to #1: I hear your short-term hope … but let’s all try to hope that even “this Hellenist army” acknowledge H and begin to follow Torah immediately. It’s Adar … great things are possible! Tshuva and Torah for all Yidden, Kovod H’ for the entire world!!

  4. To Avreimi: maybe our Father in heaven? Ever thought that he might be a bit stronger that the great soilders of the idf, that can’t even help themselves, forget about helping the rest of us. And to all those idiots that still believe that it’s the stupid Israeli government with their inept army, the reason for all the terror attackes that do go through, and those that don’t have been explained by one of the greatest worriers in Jewish history, named Dovid Hamelech. He said אם ה׳ לא ישמור עיר שוא שקד שומר. He knew what he was talking

  5. @1 I’m curious in your opinion if there was no “Hellenist army” then the Chareidim would be able to learn in the Bais Medrash peacefully yes or no? The answer is no since without the “Hellenist army” Israel would be under the control of Egypt or Jordan and we both know how many Yeshivas there are in those countries.

  6. If the Dati Leumi Rabbanim are starting to see what the goal of the IDF (to destroy Yiddishkeit) then surely at least semi-chareidim on this site can acknowledge that. Let the Israeli Arabs serve, they get all the benefits without serving as well, what about all those leftists journalists like Lapid and Yahimovich.

  7. To “karlbenmarx”: Your remarks make clear that you have great hatred towards some of your fellow Jews. I’m sorry for those whom you hate, and I’m sorry for you.

  8. #6, those countries are not the so called”Jewish state” so therefore they have no need for Torah. #8 on the contrary I love fellow Yidden and don’t want them dying for a state that will rather have die to avery killing “innocent” people in order to score a few points with KOFI ANNAN, BAN KI MOON and BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA. It is you who doesn’t care about Yiddisha mamas burying their 20 year old sons.
