Speaking with Kol Berama Radio on Thursday, 30 Adar-I, Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid, Lapid was asked how he feels regarding the new regulation in the IDF, compelling religious Jews to shave their beards.
He stated that if “chas v’sholom the IDF of the Jewish People ever have such a regulation I will fight with all my might to prevent it”.
Kol Berama:
Well just this week a chareidi soldier found himself being disciplined because he refused to shave.
Lapid:
Please give me the details and I will go to the IDF and battle on his behalf. This regulation is not against chareidim but against the non-religious who have taken advantage in their effort to have a beard. IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gadi Eizenkott is the last person who would permit such an order. No one would permit this for we all remember the dark days and I do not even want to mention this.

If a secular (meaning “human rights oriented”) party in Israel were to decided that “human” includes “Hareidim” and were to start objecting to persecution of hareidim, it would revolutionize Israeli politics.
Class politician. He no more cares about religious soldiers being allowed to wear beards than he cares about keeping Shabbos but he sees the political advantage to fighting this one.
