MK Uri Maklev feels that bnei yeshivos should be entitled to discounts on buses as part of the reform plan for the nation’s transportation system. During a Knesset plenum session Maklev told Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz that he does not understand why students received discounts but bnei yeshivos do not.
He explained that academic students are given an appreciable discount but talmidei yeshivos pay regular fares. He questions in the Transportation Ministry does not recognize that talmidei yeshivos are citizens of the State of Israel too.
He added such a plan would be far less expensive that the minister might believe for the talmidim do not need monthly passes since yeshiva life is such that they only travel time-to-time while academic students are traveling daily.
