It is reported that for every available slot in the Israel Border Police there are six applicants among the young women entering their mandatory service seeking a combat environment. According to the Walla News report, the number of women requesting to serve in the border police has increased five times since the security agency has been at the forefront of the ongoing wave of terror that began on erev Rosh Hashanah 5776.
There are 6.2 applicants for every available slot as opposed to 1.17 applicants per slot in 2011. For comparisons sake, there are most popular branch of service for men is the IDF’s Golani Brigade, with 6.6 applicants for each available slot. In fact, even among males, border police was in the top three for inductees in November 2015, following Golani (1st place) and Givati (2nd place). In the upcoming March 2016 induction, an additional 352 inductees will join the ranks of the border police with the Givati Brigade being in second place.
