Right-wing and centrist party leaders have reportedly agreed that if Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu seeks another term in office they will not recommend he receive the presidential mandate to form a coalition, Channel 2 News reports.
According to the report, Yisrael Beitenu party leader Avigdor Lieberman heads this initiative, which simply means when party leaders confer with the president to suggest who receives the presidential mandate to attempt to form a coalition government, they will explain it can be given to anyone but PM Netanyahu. They will spell out for the president that if Netanyahu receives the mandate they will not enter into the forming coalition – hoping to force the president’s hand. They are not seeking to force him out of Likud but simply demoting him to prevent his return as the nation’s leader.
PM Netanyahu is in his third consecutive term as the nation’s leader but in his fourth overall term as he served as prime minister from 1996-1999 and is now serving since 2009.

They might better attempt to increase the seats for their parties, since if Likud continues to dominate the voting, they get to pick who runs the government, especially as Likud seems to control the “center” of the Israeli political system
