Baruch Dayan Emmes: HaRav HaTzaddik Nissim Amsellem ZT”L, 97, was niftar on Monday night the eve of 14 Adar I in the Har Nof neighborhood of Yerushalayim. Rav Amsellem studied for years in Morocco and was a chavrusa of the Babi Sali ZT”L ZY”A in addition to becoming his brother-in-law as his sister was married to the Baba Sali, Rebitzen Miriam A”H.

Rav Nissim was born in Algeria and from there he moved to France where he was the rav of the kehilla in Lyon. He also served as the rav of the prison and was credited with bringing many prisoners back to a path of Torah.

Rav Nissim moved to Eretz Yisrael 20 years ago and moved to Har Nof. He established the Ohr Yaakov Yisrael Shul in memory of great Rabbanei Abuchatzera ZT”L.

After learning of his greatness, many people visited the rav at home and in his beis medrash to seek his advice.

During the last weeks of his life he was hospitalized but was released a few days before he was niftar.

The levaya will take place today, Tuesday, 14 Adar I beginning from his home. Levaya details will be updated as they are announced.
