A billboard went viral last week when many protested its anti-Israel message. A billboard was placed on Chicago’s route 294 and was funded by Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign (SEAMAC).
The billboard read: “Boycott Israel until Palestinians Have Equal Rights” with a link to the site StopFundingApartheid.com.
Jews and Pro Israel supporters were furious over the billboard that calls for discriminatory boycotts of Israel. They called on the power of social media to contact the company that put up the billboard, Lamar Advertising, and ask them to take it down immediately.
Lamar initially responded to the hundreds of phone calls and posts on social media, that the billboard does not represent their views, however they support the first amendment rights of SEAMAC, and said they have a right to present the calls.
This didn’t sway angry Pro-Israel supporters, who continued to campaign to take down the billboard.
Lamar Advertising then updated a post of their Facebook page saying that due to numerous requests on Social Media, Lamar Advertising would be removing the billboard.
This is an amazing example of the work we can do when we work against anti-Semitism and anti-Israel sentiments.
