As Heard From A Yad Batya L’kallah Volunteer

[COMMUNICATED CONTENT]

Just recently, I picked up a call on the Yad Batya phone line. The voice on the other end was that of a young girl and she sounded quite hesitant and nervous. “I think I’m getting engaged in the next few days and I just wanted to know what Yad Batya provides for kallahs.” I tried to put her at ease, listing in great detail all the wonderful items YBLK provides once an application is approved. “Oh wow.” There was not much she could say, but I could sense her immense relief over the phone when she said, “OK, I’m going to call you back to submit an application.” As I got off the phone, it was clear that when she initially said, “I think I’m getting engaged,” she wasn’t sure if she and her soon-to-be chosson could afford to get married. Until Yad Batya stepped in.

Another story…

The doorbell rang in a small fourth floor apartment. Not expecting visitors at that late hour, the daughter, a kallah, asked, “Who is it?” “Delivery!” the caller boomed into the intercom. She buzzed in the deliveryman and waited at the elevator doors. “Farberware” was emblazoned in bold, black letters on the carton. “Who sent this?” the mother asked. “Tell you in a second,” he replied, “just gotta get one more box!” Every few minutes he would reappear with another package, bag or box. The family’s curiosity mounted. “Just one more box and then I’ll explain everything!” he promised as he hurried out. They waited for the cheerful delivery man to return with an explanation.

But he didn’t return and they never found out.

For 28 years, Yad Batya  has been delivering goods and dignity to over 17,000 kallahs in the US, Canada and Yerushalaim.  Please support us by donating to our auction. Visit yadbatya.org now!
