IDF soldier Ohad Ben-Yishai, who was serving in the elite Egoz unit of the Golani Brigade, was critically wounded in Operation Protective Edge, about 18 months ago. Shrapnel pierced his head during fighting in Gaza and he was airlifted to the trauma unit of Soroka Hospital in Beersheva and later moved to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in Tel Aviv for the long road of rehab.
B’chasdei Hashem, with the backing of his family, friends and a marvelous medical and rehabilitation team, he has been discharged from the hospital on Monday, 29 Shevat to continue his life.
Officials at the Sheba Medical Center rehabilitation unit invited musicians for the party, the sendoff for Ben-Yishai, as well as some of his fellow combatants who later this week complete their three-year mandatory service in the IDF.
Shimon and his family thanked the team, whose mesirus nefesh they credit for being the shluchim who made his recuperation and release possible.
Ohad will continue rehab on an outpatient basis in the hope of continuing to regain his former abilities.
