Councilman David G. Greenfield expressed outrage over an attack that took place Monday night in Borough Park, when a 49-year old Jewish man was viciously assaulted by a group of four assailants. The suspects put the man in a chokehold and threw him to the ground, kicking him in the face multiple times, and ultimately fleeing the scene after taking his wallet.
“This sort of appalling violence has no place anywhere, but we certainly won’t stand for it in our neighborhoods,” Greenfield said. “Every member of our community has the right to walk home in safety and free of fear.” Greenfield added that his office has been in touch with the 66th NYPD police precinct that is investigating the crime. It is believed that the police have good leads in the case — video footage obtained by Borough Park Shomrim reportedly showed the four suspects fleeing from the crime scene — and arrests are expected to follow quickly. Police will also step up patrols in the area to ensure residents’ safety.
Greenfield is offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to the arrests me conviction of the for perpetrators of this terrible crime. Anyone with information should call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS, or Borough Park Shomrim at 718-871-6666.
