It’s funny because in igros moishe Rav Moshe also confuses the Kew gardens Eruv and the Kew gardens hills Eruv.
Actually “1. Besalel”, Igros Moshe does not confuse the the two. Rav Moshe wrote that it was the KGH Eruv, which is the exact one he was referring to.
The KGH Eruv (along with the extensions into Hillcrest and Jamaica Estates) were co-designed by Rav Moshe. The Vaad of Queesn had Rav Moshe co-design the Eruv (and Rav Moshe personally reviewed the entire eruv boundaries and wrote the Vaads standards for the Eruv). The Vaad did this so there would be no Machlokes on the Eruv and the KGH Eruv is one of the few universally accepted Eruvim in the world because of that. The Kew Gardens Eruv was designed by Rav Zelik Epstein Zt”l, which is why it’s also accepted, it’s just not connected to the KGH Eruv which is connected to Briarwood, Hillcreas, Jamaica Estates and some smaller Eruv Sections.
But Rav Moshe never confused the two as he personally designed it
For those who do not realize, The Kew Gardens Hills Eruv was the only eruv inspected personally by Rav Moshe and his blessing on it. He did not endorse any other eruvs afterwards
I’m sure the KGH eiruv is kosher and what I am about to say should not be taken as criticism. Every eiruv must be kept up because things change and shailos constantly arise. So the fact that Rav Moshe zt’l was involved is very chashuv, however without constant upkeep it isn’t worth much. Again, there are very chashuve rabonim in KGH, so I’m sure it’s fine.
I just hope the residents know about the situation this Shabbos.
kveens, i dont disagree with anything you said other than the early editions of orach chaim chelek daled called it the kew gardens eruv. it was later corrected.
