MK (The Movement) Amir Peretz is expected to announce his return to his home party, Labor, which is today called Machane Tzioni (Zionist Camp), the Maariv newspaper reports.
Political correspondent Yuval Karnei tweeted that once again, Peretz is moving, now back to Labor.
In fact, back in the day when it was called the Labor party, Peretz headed the party, during the Second Lebanon War. He also served as Defense Minister. He was compelled to step down from his senior cabinet post due to the colossal failures in the war and he was subsequently voted out of his party leadership post.
Peretz, who is also a former Sderot mayor and head of the Histadrut Labor Federation for over a decade, was not about to give up, making the move to The Movement party headed by Tzipi Livni. That party was about to dissolve at the end of the term of the 19th Knesset and Livni, in a lifesaving move, teamed with Yitzchak Herzog and his Machane Tzioni party. Now, Peretz looks ahead and plans a brighter future, hence the move back to Machane Tzioni.
Peretz, 59, seems to be a political survivor. He entered the 12th Knesset in 1988 and has since served in a number of posts including Defense Minister & Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environmental Affairs.
