Interior Minister Aryeh Deri hit the streets this week, visiting a bus stop in the Shmuel HaNavi neighborhood of Yerushalayim to make certain bus fares have dropped as they should have.
Many commuters at the bus stop came over to Deri to speak with him, shaking his hand and personally thanking him for being a pivotal force in lowering the cost of public transportation. One passenger showed Deri their monthly pass, which he had just purchased, explaining he paid NIS 213, a savings of NIS 37.
Deri responded, saying “I am pleased that finally, after a long difficult battle, riders feel the 14.5% reduction in fares, the largest cut in fares ever. I am happy to assist the families with many children but this is just the first stage. Today in Knesset, B’ezras Hashem we will bring a reduction in the price of water and I hope this will spread to a cut in the cost of basic items and additional assistance for the needy. This is a government that will see to it that those with limited means pay less”.

On a side note I’m wondering why bus company’s and taxi services don’t lower their prices after gas went down 50% but always raise their fares when gas prices rise
