Eilat police launched an operation to roundup illegal aliens in the southern resort city working with the Ohz unit of the Immigration Authority.

Forty officers, police and border police took part in the operation along with 25 immigration agents; leading to the detention of 26 illegals.

On the night of 22 Shevat (Sunday to Monday), police raided eight hotel rooms and three apartments in the city. Among the illegals taken into custody were 19 Turkish nationals, 6 Ukrainians and one Romanian. There were 23 men and three women.

All of the detainees were handed over to immigration officials for processing.
