The following are the latest details in the armed robbery in Flatbush which ended with the NYPD shooting an armed suspect on Avenue O and east 14th Street.
On Thursday, January 28, 2016, at approximately 11:08AM, police responded to a commercial robbery at a Verizon Store located at 418 Avenue P, within confines of the 66 Precinct.
Two male suspects entered the Verizon store armed with a firearm and announced a robbery. The suspects ordered all store employees to a back room and proceeded to remove an undetermined amount of cell phones. The suspects then fled the location in a black Jeep. A store employee then followed the suspects’ vehicle while also contacting 911.
In the vicinity of Coney Island Avenue and East 15 Street, the employee encountered a marked NYPD patrol vehicle and alerted the officers to the incident.
The police officers broadcasted a description of the vehicle and suspects, at which point a second marked patrol vehicle observed the suspects’ vehicle in the vicinity of East 14 Street and Avenue O.
The suspects’ vehicle then turned southbound on East 14 Street from Avenue O and struck a parked vehicle at which time the suspects exited the vehicle, one of whom displayed a firearm. A responding officer discharged his firearm, striking the armed suspect twice in the torso.
The suspect was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
One other suspect was apprehended without further incident and a third suspect has not been apprehended at this time.
This suspect is an unidentified male wearing a gray hoodie.
There were two firearms recovered at the scene.
The officers involved were transported to Kings County Hospital for evaluation.
