Cops Try to Arrest Rabbi Berland in South Africa – Goes Back Into Hiding Again

berlandAmid reports that Rabbi Eliezer Berland received citizenship in S. Africa and can no longer be extradited to Israel, it is now reported that dozens of police on Friday night tried to arrest Rabbi Eliezer Berland once again.

According to reports from the rav’s chassidim, dozens of police arrived during the Friday night seuda to arrest Rav Berland, who is still wanted by police in Israel. Reports adds the chassidim have taken such an eventuality into consideration and they had an escape plan and entrance ready.

As soon as police arrived the chassidim began singing and they provided sufficient cover for Rav Berland to make his escape. As such, the rav is once again holed up in an undisclosed location.

  1. Maybe the Israeli police should focus on the real enemy. The creatures that go around stabbing and car ramming. On Erev Shabbos the police removed about 200 Yidden from those buildings in Chevron. These Yidden are not the enemy. We have to investigate, who is sending these young teenagers on stabbing missions. We are wasting police manpower on little things.

  2. what a life! It is a shame he can not clear his besmirched name.

The Torah teaches (pirkai avot) there are three crowns, the crown of the priest, the kings and the Torah, but the crown of a good name is above all of them.

  3. He did what you would not want done to your daughter. There were multiple accusations from many young women who came to him for advice, and at least one male ed echad( neeman bissurin). Why he still merits the titile of Rav is beyond me.

  4. #5; A female is also neeman b’issurin such as for Kashrus. That however is not the issue here. For onshei Bais Din , two male edim are required. However we are not dealing with Bais Din here either but rather with the Israeli justice system. As Gedolei Haposkim (Rav Elyashiv etc.) have said if there are raglayim ledavar then the police should be contacted. Why he still has chasidim (who follow him to the ends of the earth) is beyond me.

  5. achassidisheyid I guess as a chassidishe Yiddishkeit you are also an am ha’aretz. FYI ed echad neeman bisurin is talking about isurin as in issur v’heter with kashrus it is not in anyway taking about arayos.
If you are truthfully wary of halacha then you should know that in that one statement if yours you transfered scores of laavim d’oraisa, according to the chafetz Chaim, and thus far haven’t found one who argues, this is worse than eating pork.

  6. #5 achassidisheyid,

Please brush up on your gemara terms.

‘ed echad ne’eman be’isshurin’ is not speaking about testimony, rather about issurin such as kashruth and a wife is believed about her obligations. as for you I hope you will do tshuva for saying something that you don’t have first hand knowledge.

  7. THank you numbers 7 and 8 for your great bekius and lomdus. I guess your education did not include the definition of ‘metaphorically’.
BTW I may be an am haaretz, but you number 7 as a ‘shoimea’ are oiver the same laven that I am. I guess we will meet in the afterlife. But we can take consolation in the fact that our din vecheshban will not be the same as a “boel eishis ish”
