Governor Andrew M. Cuomo this morning issued an update on service suspensions for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The MTA will restore bus, subway and regional railroad service as conditions warrant throughout the day Sunday. Customers should check www.mta.info for service status updates before beginning their journeys, since conditions remain subject to change. The travel ban has been officially lifted as of 7 a.m. this morning, and the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels opened at that time without incident.

Restoring service requires clearing snow and ice from tracks, third rails, switches and signals, using power equipment as well as manual labor. In most cases, full service will be restored gradually, as equipment and crews are put into position. Any equipment damaged by snow and ice must be repaired, and regional railroad crews subject to federal limits on their hours of service must be scheduled appropriately.

The safety of customers and employees is the MTA’s top priority. Please use extreme caution in bus stops and on platforms and stairways at subway and railroad stations.

Subways
MTA New York City Transit will restore service to these outdoor subway lines by 9 am, in many cases at lower service frequencies than normal. Customers should monitor www.mta.info to learn when particular lines have resumed service, and delays remain possible on a line-by-line basis:· 1 train in the Bronx and Manhattan

Buses
MTA New York City Transit restored local and express bus service throughout New York City at 7 am. Buses, operators and supervisors will be in place and ready to resume service at that time. Customers should expect delays, route changes and other deviations from normal Sunday service because of local road conditions. Customers are advised to use the MTA Bus Time real-time tracker at bustime.mta.info to monitor buses on their chosen routes.

Paratransit
Access-A-Ride paratransit services will be available by 7 am, dependent on local road conditions. The reservations call center will open at 7 am, and contractors are taking steps to ensure vehicles and drivers will be ready to pull out at that time.

Metro-North Railroad
MTA Metro-North Railroad will begin restoring service at outlying stations after 12 noon, and will be fully operational in and out of Grand Central Terminal by 3 pm, operating on a Sunday schedule. Grand Central Terminal will open for retail customers at 8 am. Specific line information is available atwww.mta.info. 

The Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines west of the Hudson River operated by NJ Transit remain suspended until further notice. Customers should checkwww.njtransit.com for service updates.
 
Long Island Rail Road
Many of the railroad’s yards are still buried in more than two feet of snow, as is the Harold Interlocking in Queens, where all lines intersect before entering the tunnels to Manhattan. Tracks are still impeded by stranded trains in some locations, while frozen switches prevent the railroad’s snow-clearing equipment from moving through the system to reach the areas they are needed. Crews will work throughout the day to restore the railroad, focusing on the most heavily-traveled branches first, with a goal of bringing back service for the Monday morning rush. Updates on progress will be made available throughout the day.​

Bridges and Tunnels
MTA bridges and tunnels will be open at 7 am.
