Suburban NYC Railroads: Delays Possible During Snowstorm

lirrThe Metropolitan Transportation Authority says Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road may modify or suspend service if heavy snow, ice or winds are affecting the New York City area.

Both railroads were among the agencies making storm plans on Thursday.

The LIRR has four modified schedules for storm recovery. It says frozen switches and the loss of third-rail power are among the potential challenges.

Metro-North says that, among other things, its experts will be checking to see if high winds or fallen tree branches are causing problems with the railroad’s overhead wires.
