Magen David Adom operates what is called a Mishalot (Assisted Wish) ambulance, which is usually called into action to assist the chronically ill to fulfill a last wish.
A day before Shmulik Rada was niftar from cancer he was transported to Katzrin in northern Israel to take part in a chanukas habayis for a shul named in memory of Tair Rada. He was a day away from his 60th birthday.
MDA learned Mr. Rada was hospitalized in Poriah Hospital in Tiveria and doctors were not permitting him to leave to take part in the dedication of the shul in memory of his daughter z”l. MDA learned the event was scheduled to be held on 4 Shevat and it arranged to contact the appropriate doctors and the Mishalot ambulance was sent on another chessed mission. It is added that Mr. Rada was niftar the following day, on erev Shabbos. The ambulance was at his side the entire day, permitting him to get home and then prepare for the event and attend the shul dedication as he believed he would not be able to do.
Despite hearing the shul, named תאיר שבת אחים was completed, Shmulik did not see any way he was going to be able to take part in the event since doctors explained he could not be released without constant medical supervision, which the Mishalot team provided to the hospital’s satisfaction.
Paramedic Moshe Mor, who was a member of the team escorting Shmulik, explained “Since the horrific murder of Tair A”H in school in 2006, and I was among those who responded to that scene, till today, I have remained in touch with the family and we connected at different times. I am moved to be a part of this event as well, to be able to take part in the shul dedication and see the emotions during the dedication. This was a great honor and privilege for me, an act that penetrated the hearts of family members and all of Am Yisrael. I give strength to the family and extend my best wishes during this time of loss”.
Mrs. Elana Rada, Shmulik’s wife added “On this special day we realized the dream together and it is simply amazing that they made this possible with the special ambulance. MDA assisted and honored us to the very last moment. I have no words to properly express my gratitude for each and every fabulous person who was involved and I will remember them forever”.
About 1,000 family members and friend took part in the shul dedication. Organizers explained the building of the shul was expedited in the hope Shmulik would be able to take part. Tair was the victim of a brutal non-terror-related murder R”L in a school bathroom. She was only 13.
