Saying New York’s system of government is “broken,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo is reiterating his support for a state constitutional convention which he says offers voters the chance to reform their state government.
Voters will decide in 2017 whether to hold a constitutional convention, and they would get the chance later to approve or reject any changes recommended to the state’s governing document.
Cuomo says a convention would give the voters an opportunity to address chronic government corruption and revise the rules under which government operates.
On Wednesday the governor says he wants the state to spend $1 million to create a non-partisan commission to begin studying possible topics for a convention.
