Cuomo Announces $1 Billion NYC Javitz Convention Center Expansion

jjcNew York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced a $1 billion expansion plan to make Manhattan’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center “the convention center for the next generation.”

Cuomo says Thursday that construction will start this year and will add 344,000 square-feet of meeting and exhibition space, 400,000 square-feet of operational space and 479,000 square-feet for delivery truck parking.

The announcement comes four years after the governor proposed razing the Javits Center and replacing it with a new convention center in Queens. He said then that the Javits Center was “obsolete and not large enough to be a top-tier competitor in today’s marketplace.”

Thursday, he said the Javits Center is the busiest convention center in the country. But he says it must grow to remain competitive.

  1. I don’t know where Governor Cuomo gets his information from that the Javits Convention Center is the busiest in the country as the Las Vegas Convention Center is the busiest in the Country as almost every industry makes their trade shows there every year.
