Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) visited with hundreds of students and educators from the Mevakshai Hashem yeshiva in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon to view the students’ completed geography projects. Educators and principals in attendance last night included Rabbi Yitzchok Gluck, Fishel Schechter and Yehuda Gartenhaus.
With each class collaborating on a project of their own, the students made colorful 3-D projects of individual states, along with key historical information pertaining to that state. Assemblyman Hikind toured the school and observed the projects, commending the students’ efforts and hard work.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the Rabbeim, educators and principals for having the patience, dedication and devotion, because [the students] are the future,” said Assemblyman Hikind, who spent extra time with each student on their presentations. “I have the utmost respect for the educators because they have one of the most difficult jobs, and also the most loving and rewarding job.”
Classes took turns showing off their projects while explaining to Assemblyman Hikind the processes and intricacies behind their displays.
“The work that you put in with your friends and classmates, the love that you put in, was something special,” said Hikind, who addressed every student’s project. You don’t have to thank me for coming – I’m thanking you for the work you put into this.”
Hikind’s visit follows a meeting last week with many yeshiva administrators at the Kosover Rabbi’s home, who announced future competitions between schools within the community including spelling bee contests and science fairs. Hikind was invited by Spinka yeshiva principal Avi Greenstein to attend a science fair back in May, in which the assemblyman attended to stress the importance of science and education.
