Yeshiva Student Attacked While Walking On Ave L And East 29 Street; Hikind Urges Community To Be On Alert

nypd4Assemblyman Dov Hikind (D-Brooklyn) urged the community to be on high alert after learning about a second local attack in the past 24 hours. A 17-year-old Jewish male from Flatbush was listening to music while walking home from yeshiva around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. The attack occurred off Avenue L and East 29th Street. The victim was approached and attacked by an African American described as 5-foot-8 and wearing a black hoodie.

“I’m just in complete shock over the recent spate of violence and brutality,” said Assemblyman Hikind, who said the attack was reminiscent of the 2013 knockout games in Brooklyn. “It’s a shame that we have to worry about what street we’re walking down in such a safe neighborhood.”

“We, as a community, need to be aware and alert of our surroundings,” added Hikind, who visited the victim at his house Tuesday afternoon.

The boy was punched in the face once, knocking him to the ground and out onto the street. He was wearing earphones to listen to his music when the perpetrator approached him, lunging at the youth once he got within arm’s reach. The 17-year-old sustained bruising to the side of his face and is in stable condition.

Hikind reached out to the NYPD 70th Precinct, who responded to the call last night, to ensure all measures were being exhausted to locate and apprehend the perpetrator, as well as to suggest an increase in police patrols throughout the community. “I will do all I can to ensure the residents of this community that they can walk the streets safely,” Hikind said. “I’m confident that the NYPD 70th Precinct and the shomrim will work relentlessly until justice is served.”

  1. welcome to de blasio “proressive” vision, where are all those people looking for pictures with this incompetent guy now? A Yid was hurt simply for being a YID.

  2. Hikind is “in complete shock”

Greenfeld will soon say how he’s “appalled” or “outraged” that such a thing can happen ….

These guys keep their trusty thesaurus handy and always find the right adjective to emphasize the point their trying to make.

Our political reps are overusing such words and as a result are not taken seriously. They sound like a bunch of clowns.

  3. We the frum Jews of Midwood pay our taxes and therefore should be protected at all times by the NYPD. The blacks who don’t work and pay no taxes should receive reduced police protection. Why is it that we never see squad cars driving up and down in the east 20s? We pay the taxes; we should get the protection.

  4. If this keeps up, maybe someone from our community should find them and do what was done in Williamsburg many years ago and leave them in middle of the street for all to see we can fight back.

  5. Yoylish I am not sure a Thesaurus is going to make too much of a difference in protecting our Boys nor a 1000 dollars though self defense classes sounds like a prompt and expeditious response to being bullied unless its a really big and hardcover type

  6. “It’s a shame that we have to worry about what street we’re walking down in such a safe neighborhood.””

No guards and virtually no Jews armed to come out and defend one of our own. You think there’s some social compact saying criminals don’t come in better neighborhoods?

Go take an NRA safety class and then get armed.

  7. Besides every Jew a 22

It is time for Nottingham to be reJewVenated in the Brooklyn area & for homemakers to pay membership for a drive by security crew.

  8. While u agree it’s enraging and angering but If there are frum Jews in office isn’t it there job to take care of the whole precinct? Why don’t we hear them enraged and angered over non Jewish related problems?
