An Arabic teacher in a Jerusalem school hung a flag that says “There is no god other than Allah, Mohammad is god’s messenger”, as seen in the photo. She was not just teaching Arabic, but Islam.
The martyrdom flag was placed on the wall of a The Masorti High School classroom. This was done as part of an Arabic class teaching Arabic trends.
The incident led to a debate on social media and more than an insignificant number of persons found nothing wrong with her actions. One student who feels the move was educational and nothing more explains “The flag was not hung proudly on the wall, but solely for the purpose of study. I am a student of this trend and the teacher who cares a great deal is very difficult towards enabling us to contribute to our country with dignity”. Other students who came to the teacher’s defense explain the flag was simply towards teaching them about their neighbors, nothing more.
Not everyone was as understanding however, as some students feel the message was not one of Arabic but Islam.
The school explains the class is excellent as is the teacher, who officials add served with pride for a number of years in an IDF elite intelligence unit. School officials add the flag was serving as a photo of a verse in Koran and not as a flag.
“We of course do not align with Hamas and we instruct students towards a familiarity with Islamic culture, which does not represent identifying with Hamas. We would never wave the Hamas flag in school and will continue to fly the national flag of the State of Israel. We will also continue teaching students a familiarity with Islamic culture and we will not permit rumors and extremism to run our school” the school statement added.

Where do you (YWN) come off calling this “the martyrdom flag”? The words simply affirm God (“Allah”) and their prophet. This is the Moslem equivalent (lehavdil) of the Shema for us.
Do they also teach these kids about Judaism? Or just that they should understand Islam?
