Israel Will Not Compensate Members of the Darawshe Family of Duma

dumaMK (Arab List) Yousef Jabareen presented a query in Knesset, seeking to determine if Israel will pay compensation to the Darawshe family of Duma as they are victims of terror. Three members of the family in the PA (Palestinian Authority) village were killed in an arson attack believed to have been carried out by Jews, but this is yet to be proven.

Responding on behalf of the government was Deputy Defense Minister Eli Ben-Dahan, who explained no compensation will be paid because the law stipulates compensation may be paid to terror victims providing they are citizens, which the Darawshe family is not.

Ben-Dahan explained the family may contact the Defense Ministry with a request to make an exception in this case.

It is pointed out that not long following the attack, Prime Minister Netanyahu stated the state would compensate the family.

Jabareen told Ben-Dahan the state’s position is discriminatory and if the case were reversed, and the victims were Jewish, compensation would be made without question.
