Monsey: More Than 25 Vehicle Broken Into In Past Few Days

02There has been a rash of car break-ins in the Monsey area the past few days. Rockland Chaveirim told YWN that more than 25 vehicles were broken into since Friday night.

The Ramapo Police Department says that in most of these incidents, the car had been left unlocked while parked overnight in a driveway. Items stolen were GPS’s, cash, coins, and other items of value which are left visible in an unlocked vehicle. In three instances, the window of the vehicle was actually broken with a rock to gain entry.

Some of the streets which had vehicle broken into are Jill Lane, Ralph Boulevard, Blauvelt Road, Francis Place, and Suzanne Drive.

Although these incidents occurred primarily in the Monsey and Kaiser are, the Ramapo Police would like to remind all residents for a few crime prevention tips that may decrease the likelihood of theft:

– Always lock your car doors.
– Never leave valuables in your car.
– If possible, park your car in a well-lit area.

Rockland Chaveirim commended the Ramapo Police for working overtime on trying to catch the perpetrators. The Spring Valley Police Department is involved in the investigation as well. Rockland Chaveirim as well as the Ramapo Police Department have added patrols to the area.

If you see anything suspicious, please call the Town of Ramapo Police immediately at 845-357-2400. Rockland Chaveirim can be reached at 845-371-6333.

  1. I had my car burglarized a month ago in Queens. The thief took my work bag with $2500 worth of equipment. Forgot to lock my doors just that one time for an hour. Costliest mistake of my life. My advice is the same mentioned in this article: ALWAYS LOCK YOUR DOORS AND NEVER LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR. I learned the hard way and still haven’t gotten over it.

  2. red sock, depending where you were parked, you could be able to make a theft insurance claim on your home insurance policy. Did this occur in your driveway? Also, I think you have to file a police theft report. Hopefully not too much time has elapsed. And for all you editors and proofreaders out there, I am fully cognizant of the fact that I just used “hopefully” incorrectly.
