The Yahadut Hatorah faction met to discuss chilul Shabbos in Tel Aviv, including attorneys Yitzchak Meron and David Shuv in the forum to discuss the High Court and opening stores on Shabbos. The meeting was called because the faction members believe cabinet ministers are not responding firmly to the High Court regarding the need to close businesses on Shabbos in Tel Aviv as some of the ministers do not wish to confront the community wishing to operate businesses on Shabbos. .
The cabinet this week decided to ask the High Court for an extension of one month before having to respond on the Shabbos issue in Tel Aviv. The Yahadut Hatorah faction members wanted to hear from legal experts regarding their position vis-à-vis the law. One decision made was the establishment of a committee that will take complaints from the tzibur, storeowners who feel those opening for businesses on Shabbos are harming their livelihood.
The attorneys explained to the lawmakers that today, a growing number of stores bring at least one non-Jewish worker and by doing so, they are sidestepping the Shabbos closure law. This is being done quietly and not publicized but it is occurring in businesses to remain open on Shabbos and avoid fines. The legal experts participating in the meeting explained that this policy is tantamount to placing a sign in the business “We do not accept Jewish workers” and it is most problematic for a growing number of businesses will not hire frum workers.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe never believed in these Meetings. He said, that, they meet around a round table to decide when to meet again.
