Weekend construction on the Bayonne Bridge will not delay motorists celebrating the start of Hanukkah.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the span will close Friday between 11:59 p.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday and at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
The bridge, which links Bayonne with Staten Island, will reopen at 5 a.m. Sunday for the first day of Hanukkah.
The $1.3 billion project to raise the roadway will give larger ships access to New York and New Jersey ports. The new bridge roadway will have wider lanes and a median.
