The ongoing wave of Islamic terror began on erev Rosh Hashanah 5776 and as a result, stores in the capital are closing weekly as business has declined significantly.
According to a Walla News report, fewer people are coming to the center of the city and in the past week, a once popular pub in Machane Yehuda closed its doors along with two restaurants in city center and two other pubs in the downtown area. The owners share the same story. The debts have been mounting and they cannot continue juggling in the hope of business turning around tomorrow. Fewer people are willing to come to the city center to hang out after hours, and while this finds favor in the eyes of some, the big picture is a worrisome one as businesses are hurting as a result of continuing terror attacks.
The report quotes Merchants Association Chairman Eli Levi explaining “I get chills when I hear of each business that is closing down”. He laments that the closures shows just how fragile the city is and not enough is being done to give the businesses a boost and assist them through this difficult period.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat has recently gone public in his criticism of the treasury, accusing Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon of falling short of his responsibility towards the capital during this critical time, insisting City Hall is doing what it can but government on a local level is limited. The response from the Finance Ministry was far from defensive, blaming the shortage of funds on City Hall’s mismanagement, not a lack of funding.

One Response
Perhaps the razing of the terrorists’ homes is not an effective deterrent. It may accomplish little more than raising their level of rage. After all, we are dealing with barbarians and subhuman savages.
I suggest a few alternatives.
1 – Any claims of monetary damages from terror should be submitted for evaluation. These monies will be deducted from the taxes that Israel collects for the PA. Right off the top. These animals can complain all they want to the UN and the rest of the world’s evil doers. Tough.
2 – Each and every act of terror should result in immediate death penalty of terrorists held in Israeli prisons. One might establish a ratio, one terror act to – suppose – 10 jailed terrorists. If anyone thinks such action is savage, first explain why the terror is not savage.
We need to remain fully aware that the violence we are observing is part of Ikvesoh de’Meshicho. But that does not absolve us of responsibility to counter their inhuman savagery.
