Betar Illit is once again recognized as a five-star city. During a ceremonious presentation this week attended by hundreds of mayors and council heads the Council for a Beautiful Israel declared once again Betar is a beautiful city in Israel for 2015. Mayor Meir Rubinstein was informed this year the city received a five-star rating by the council.
The award followed months of visiting neighborhoods and shopping area by the panel of judges which checked a number of parameters from cleanliness of the city through public welfare facilities, maintenance of public buildings to parks and green spaces.
It was noted during the ceremony in Givat Shmuel that Betar has received a five-star rating for 19 consecutive years. The city in the past has also been recognized as a beautiful local council in another award given every five years.
Betar today numbers approximately 50,000 residents. Mayor Rubinstein explains to the media the prize is not just a good thing for his city but for the chareidi tzibur at large for when a taxi driver or others who do not live there visit, it paints the chareidi community in a positive light. He adds that this however in no way diminishes his obligation to address the problems in the community including the young who abandon the path of their parents and remain at risk.

Yes, Beitar is very nice and clean, and that is very surprising when you realize the high child population count there.
In other parts of Jerusalem where there are high religious children population counts, the streets are littered with all kinds of junk, mainly wrappers from the likes of bisles, bambas and the like.
