Yisrael Beitenu party leader MK Avigdor Lieberman on Monday 27 Cheshvan expressed criticism over demands by chareidi parties to amend the draft law. The former foreign minister stated “One cannot ignore the unfortunate timing that next week the government will bring a draft or resolution to amend the share the burden law”.
“I think that which is taking place, first of all regarding the Defense Ministry, is unreasonable” added Lieberman, who then spoke of the Arab violence and terror attacks in Yehuda, Shomron, Yerushalayim and the threats facing Israel from Gaza, Sinai and Syria, mentioning the Russian plane that appears to be blown out of the sky by terrorists. He blasted the timing of the efforts of chareidi lawmakers, as the nation faces threats in every direction.
He feels that amending the law in favor of the chareidim is a blow to the very same people who bear the burden of providing the nation’s security today. He spoke of “Likud giving in to the chareidim”, adding “it should not occur”. He cited examples including “Gedolei Yisrael who fought and are no less Jewish, including Yehoshua Ben Nun, King David and Yehuda the Maccabi, who never viewed army service opposing their Jewishness”.
