With many Ashkelon residents under water from major flooding, the result of Monday’s rainstorm, firemen and police along with volunteer agencies continue rescue efforts, working to extricate residents from flooded areas and to help those in need to find shelter.
Some residents are angry as they learned Mayor, Itamar Shimoni is not in City Hall working to address their crisis, but in Uman at the tziyun of Rav Nachman ZT”L.
It was a most difficult day for residents and security agencies alike as many streets were flooded and calls were received to rescue many families. The situation became difficult at Barzilai Hospital as well as the water began accumulating in the city’s hospital.
In fairness to the mayor, he did not leave during the rainstorm and regarding the anger of some residents, when contacted, the mayor indicated he is heading home.

Motzi Shem Ra. Why did you write “The Mayor is Off to Uman” in your title? You wrote at the end that he left before and is headed home!
Oh gosh, where is the water coming from? This is devastating to residents of the city. yikes!
Didn’t anyone pay attention during tefilas geshem? It says it right there….L’vracha v’lo liklah, lchaim v’lo l’muves, l’sova vlo l’ruzon. How can you have a complaint about a Frum mayor who sees his city being destroyed by rain, and wants to daven for a yeshuah. Besides nobody is really prepared for such flooding , not even Bloomberg and Cuomo were ready for Sandy.
Mods: This is unexpected from you. It clearly states he had no knowledge of the flooding and headed home as soon as he was informed. Please change caption.
Blimey! It does look very wet!
But what about some rachmonus for Mayor Itamar Shimoni?
How could anyone have expected such rainfall?
A mayor of Israeli city goes to the galut to pray!!!! That’s the biggest tragedy.
