Greenfield Invites Community to Decide How to Spend $1 Million

gfnBrooklyn, NY – This Tuesday, November 10th, Councilman David G. Greenfield is kicking off the fourth year of Participatory Budgeting in the 44th Council District. Participatory Budgeting is a unique democratic process in which community members direct $1 million of the New York City budget. Greenfield invites residents of his Boro Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst district to join him at the upcoming Participatory Budgeting neighborhood assembly to help decide how $1 million in city funds will be allocated for community improvements. The meeting will be held at 6 pm on Tuesday, November 10 at the Georgie Ballroom at 4424 16th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY.

“I am proud to once again bring the participatory budgeting process to the residents of Boro Park, Midwood and Bensonhurst. This is a great opportunity for community members to have a direct say in how their tax dollars are spent. Last year we had over 2,000 residents participate in Participatory Budgeting. This year I am hoping that even more will get involved,” said Councilman Greenfield.

Last year, Greenfield allocated over $1 million in funding for neighborhood improvements with over 2,000 residents ages 16 and older taking part in the participatory budgeting cycle. The four winning projects of last year’s participatory budgeting were street repair and resurfacing for the 44th Council District ($200,000), Digital Bus Signs for the B11 and B6 letting riders know when the next bus is coming ($200,000), the Beautify Boro Park Initiative to plant 100 new trees in Boro Park ($170,000), and funding for a brand new OHEL headquarters ($500,000).
