Arrest Made in the Murder of Elderly Connecticut Jewish Resident

arrestPolice in Waterbury Connecticut announce that a suspect was taken into custody earlier this week in the murder of elderly Middlebury resident Isidore Ellin, 79. It appears the suspect, 44-year-old Steven Brockett knew the deceased. Brockett is being held on $750,000 bail and is being brought before the Waterbury Superior Court later today, Thursday, 23 Cheshvan.

Police arrived in the home of the victim on Tuesday morning 21 Cheshvan at 6:30 AM, when they found him lying in a pool of blood in his driveway. According to the medical examiner’s report, the cause of death was blunt trauma to his head.

Investigators have already learned that back in 2009 a rental property in Waterbury was listed in Ellin’s name and now, that same address is listed for Brockett, the suspect in the murder. However it is added at this early stage in the case investigators are not reporting that Brockett was renting from Ellin but detectives feel this may be more than a coincidence.

Connecticut State Police Trooper Kelly Grant told the press the investigation into the homicide continues.

Middlebury Police Chief James Viadero added “We would like to tell the people of Middlebury this is an isolated incident. It’s not a random act and they should not have a concern for their safety as a result.”

CHesed Shel Emmes were on the scene ensuring proper Kavod Hames.
