Most Republican presidential candidates are still demanding changes to the GOP’s coming debates. That’s not to say they are speaking with one voice.
The White House hopefuls have different strategies for scoring political points from the uproar.
Some, like Ted Cruz, are going after debate hosts to rally conservatives against the media. Others, such as Ben Carson, are organizing debate critics to help demonstrate leadership. A few, like Donald Trump, are breaking with the rest to show they are not part of a herd.
Carson spokesman Doug Watts says more than 10 candidates are expected to sign a letter outlining their debate demands. These candidates want to bypass the Republican National Committee and negotiate directly with media hosts, ensure everyone is asked the same number of questions and more.
