Index crimes continue to decline in New York City. When comparing 2015 through October 31st, versus the same period in 2014, crime is down 3.1 percent or 2,817 fewer crimes.
Murders for October 2015 are down four homicides or 12.5 percent when compared to the same period of 2014. Rape is down 22 crimes for the month of October or 16.8 percent. Robbery is down 12 crimes or .8 percent. Assault is down 88 crimes or 5.1 percent. Burglary is down 222 crimes or 14.2 percent. Grand larceny is down 247 crimes or 6 percent. Grand larceny auto is up 18 crimes or 2.6 percent. Shooting incidents for the month of October were down 11 shooting incidents or 11.8 percent.
“We are proud that we are pushing crime even lower, despite our record low last year,” said Commissioner William J. Bratton. “We’ll continue building new relationships in our communities to better address crime and concerns in particular neighborhoods, making this city safe and fair, everywhere.”
Year to date (through midnight of 10/31/2015), crime is down 3.1 percent. However, murder is up 21 crimes or 7.7 (as of midnight 11/1/2015) percent and rape is up 48 crimes or 4.2 percent (as of midnight 11/1/2015). Shooting incidents were down 17 incidents or 1.7 percent (as of midnight on 11/1/2015).
Transit crime is up 139 crimes system wide or 7.5 percent. Housing is up 5 crimes or .1 percent (as of midnight on 11/1/2015).
Year to date, 70 percent of the city’s shooting incidents happened in the Bronx or in Brooklyn.
