Officials say the crew of a Boeing 777 reported seeing an unmanned aircraft while approaching John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the British Airways Flight 177 crew reported the sighting about five miles northeast of JFK Airport between 1,800 and 2,000 feet off the ground.

It happened around 5 p.m. Thursday. The flight originated from London, England.

The FAA notified the New York City Police Department, which is investigating.

FAA rules don’t permit unmanned objects above 400 feet.
