Minister of Religious Services (Shas) David Azoulai is calling for security for Israel’s Chief Rabbis. During a Knesset Finance Committee meeting pertaining to the budget for his ministry, Azoulai explained the Chief Rabbis of Israel should have a security detail. “I do not understand why the Chief Rabbis are not protected” stated the minister.
The Finance Committee session was held on Tuesday 14 Cheshvan to discuss the budget of the Ministry of Religious Services. Azoulai requested to add sufficient funds in the next budget for his ministry to enable providing security for the Chief Rabbis.
Azoulai explained to committee members that during these sensitive times the Chief Rabbis should at the very least have the same security as Members of Knesset and cabinet ministers.
It is pointed out that despite Azoulai comments, there is security in the offices of the Chief Rabbis and everyone seeking to enter the building in checked. In addition, if and when they travel to areas of Yehuda and Shomron they are provided an armored vehicle. Nevertheless when the Chief Rabbis move about, they do not have a security detail.
