  1. this is a every day occurance in heimishe neighborhoods.
driver really don’t think before they make decisions and they are the ones who have to live with this for the rest of their life. they injure a father for life(if he recovers) and they keep on driving. Suspend their license for 5 years minimum and maybe they will learn.

  2. SCY4851 – I frequently see drivers back out of streets and at the corner of 41st and 16th you can always see cars at angles blocking the crosswalk facing each other near a school. Boro Park is like the wild west with lawless motorists. It’s surprising that there aren’t more pedestrian injuries. Just yesterday I saw a school bus back out of a street after dropping off a boy and the street was not blocked.

I understand the frustration, however this was an accident this driver will have to live with for the rest of his life. He will always remember this moment he made this irresponsible mistake. I don’t think he can regret it more than he already is! A ticket or charges will help no one. It will be no more a deterrent than the accident itself. The only ones that can win from this is the city, Not letting a tragedy go to waste without taking advantage of it.

Like you, I’m also really hurt by this story as well as by the traffic, double park, by some and reckless driving by a few. Talk about speeding, he was not speeding at all I bet (reverse).

  4. Part of the issue is that Boro Park is saturated with more cars than the roads could feasibly support. Thus the roads, especially the side streets, are clogged when people are picked up/dropped off, loading/unloading, etc backing up traffic for a whole block or more.

  5. RE: backing out of blocks. While I hate it, you do have to realize that in BP sometimes cars or trucks just stop in middle of the block and can sit there for 15 – 20 minutes or longer. What is a person who is stuck behind them and on his way to work expected to do??

  6. This did not happen near an intersection this happened opposite the Krasna yeshiva on 42nd street about 100 feet before the intersection of 14th Ave. The pedestrian stepped out from between parked cars while the motorist was backing up.
