New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says his administration will continue “to build upon” the environmental record of his predecessor.

De Blasio and ex-Mayor Michael Bloomberg will make a rare public appearance together Wednesday in the Bronx.

The two men will plant the capstone tree in the One Million Trees program launched by Bloomberg when he was in office.

De Blasio was elected in 2013 after waging a campaign that was critical of many Bloomberg policies.

But he did praise his predecessor’s work on gun control and climate change. He said Tuesday that Bloomberg should be “very proud” of the tree-planting program.

De Blasio’s staff invited Bloomberg to attend the event, which was first reported by The Associated Press.
