The Knesset Finance Committee is holding intense discussions surrounding the 2015-2016 state budget.
During a committee session on Monday 6 Cheshvan, chairman MK Moshe Gafne turned to Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz regarding the change in the religious status quo by public buses operating on Shabbos in a growing number of municipalities. Gafne warned that beginning to run buses before Shabbos ends and providing bus service on Shabbos is unacceptable, and it will turn workers (עובדים) into slaves (עבדים).
“We must learn from other countries how to respect tradition” he concluded.

Which countries does he have in mind? America no longer respects its traditions, and those in a number of other countries are no example for a Jew or any decent human being to follow.
I agree with Aharon. What’s more, UNESCO wants to reclassify the Kosel as a MUSLIM site! A holy site the Arabs ym”s used as a wall for houses, and before that as a garbage dump!
There is something to learn from goyim about honoring tradition?? I can’t imagine what.
I think Italy has some traditions about opera.
Britian has traditions about the Queen.
Germany still has it’s Ocktoberfest.
I’m not sure that any of the really important traditions are being upheld in Western nations.
I guess he was trying to talk in a way that secular people would understand.
I, once, was going to point out to a secular crowd that if people try to preserve the culture of Inuit(we aren’t”allowed to say “eskimo” anymore) and Native Americans(ditto for “political correctness.”), why don’t they want to preserve the “culture” of religious Jews?
I guessed that “double standards” would apply and MK Gafne should guess that, as well, in this case, but can’t fault him for trying.
Gafne is ignoring that the tradition of zionism is to establish a secular non-Torah alternative to Torah and mitsvos. The Israelis are acting in the best tradition of zionism.
