Former ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Avi Dichter in a statement to Channel 2 News on Tuesday evening 30 Tishrei explained that Israel and the IDF in particular must not permit Gazans to cross the border fence during violent protests but they must be stopped, even if this means shooting to kill.
Dichter explained we may not permit Gazans to cross border in protest. This is a red line and if it is not stopped now/today, the consequences will be catastrophic. If this played out at the Egyptian border from Gaza, the Egyptians would shoot to kill, no questions asked. This is what must be done today and now. They are testing us and our response is critical.
